Artown Little Book released

Artown, Reno’s month-long summer art and culture festival, has released the Little Book, detailing 650+ events slated to take place in July in Reno, Sparks, Virginia City, Carson City, and Incline Village. The books—50,000 in English and 5,000 in Spanish—are available at several establishments including Nevada State Bank, Port of Subs, Washoe County Libraries, and Raley’s. The calendar is also available on Artown’s website.

 

 

New Vozzola mural dedicated in Las Vegas today

Today the city of Las Vegas dedicated Eric Vozzola’s new mural, “Color Therapy,” at the Charleston Underpass just east of Grand Central Parkway. The mural is one of the largest in Nevada, covering nearly 24,000 square feet. To see more of Vozzola’s murals around Las Vegas, visit his Instagram.

Poster artist announced for 2025 Cowboy Poetry Gathering 

The Western Folklife Center in Elko has announced that the poster artist for the for the 40th National Cowboy Poetry Gathering is Don Weller of Oakley, Utah. The poster features his 2024 watercolor painting of a horse and a rider in a snowy, mountain landscape, “Blowing Cold.” Weller has done design and illustration for Time Magazine, the National Football League, and the 1984 Olympic Games, and he has designed five stamps for the United States Post Office. The poster will be available for sale at the gathering Jan. 27 – Feb. 1, 2025.

Priscilla Fowler gallery launches membership program

Priscilla Fowler Fine Art Gallery, located the Downtown Las Vegas Arts District for the past eight years, has launched a new membership program in an effort to bolster funds in order to combat the rising cost of rent. The program offers several levels of annual membership, each including benefits such as a discount on gallery artwork on your birthday, a discount on gift shop items, party and VIP event invitations, and business advertising. Nevada museums offer discounts to military families

Museums around the state are offering free admission to military families through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2, as part of the Blue Star Museums program, run by the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families. Participating Nevada museums include the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, the Neon Museum on Las Vegas, Lost City Museum in Overton, the Northeast Nevada Museum in Elko, and several others. Nevada Humanities awards major grants

Nevada Humanities announced on May 22 that it has awarded $202,358 in grant funding to 35 cultural organizations—34 in Nevada and one in California. Visual arts organizations that have been awarded funds include the Holland Project and the Nevada Museum of Art, both in Reno, and Capital City Arts Initiative in Carson City.
